This will probably be my last post of 2002. In general, it has been a good year. Today has been especially good. Since my birthday is in ten days I bought myself a new pair of glasses and my mom purchased the seventh season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" for me. I really cleaned up. As I am sipping sparkling grape juice this evening I will compile my list of New Year's resolutions, so be on the lookout for them tomorrow.

On a totally different note, I got an A in my graduate fluids class! That is not something I was expecting, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. After the fall 2002 quarter I have a UCLA GPA of 3.85. That's higher than I ever had at UF. Now the trick will be to maintain it.

1) Tylenol Sinus Day
2) Tylenol Sinus Night
3) Sudafed
4) More Tylenol Sinus (day/night)
5) Metholatum Ointment
6) Even more Tylenol Sinus (day/night)

No, this isn't simply the contents of my medicine cabinet. It is a list of thwarted attempts to relieve my cold symptoms while my family was in Tampa. Nothing worked. Now I am home and I can suffer in the privacy of my bedroom rather than a hotel room.

Always have at least a change of underwear and socks in your carry-on when flying. After spending a night in Memphis, TN when one of my flights was cancelled I learned this the hard way. I arrived in Tallahassee 15 hours later than originally scheduled and was awake for 36 hours straight. Now I have the flight back in two weeks to look forward to.

I finished my Christmas shopping! Five shopping days early.

I got an A- in my MEMS class. That's good news. Now I'm worried about my fluids class. Apparently fall quarter grades won't be available online until the 30th. That's eleven more days to wait.

The mountains near Los Angeles are covered with snow from the recent storm. I finally got the pilot light in my heater lit again so I can warm up my apartment. It was 58 degree inside when I got home this morning. Winter in Southern California.

The "Lake Tahoe 2002" pictures now have names and descriptions. Now I'm watching Patrick Stewart in "A Christmas Carol." I also saw him in "Star Trek: Nemesis" on Friday and on the Next Generation marathon on TNN today so I am saturated.

I added ten pictures to "Lake Tahoe 2002" in the photo album. They are the last ten in the album and were taken with my camera. Sometime this week I will get around to adding names and descriptions to all of the pictures.

Thinking about my fluids final exam makes me want to hurl. It was a prime example of why I am opposed to open-book exams. It was really hard. But now I'm free. No matter how depressing that final was, I don't have to worry about school for three weeks. That will take some getting used to.

UCLA has an interesting tradition. At midnight on each day of finals week all of the students scream at the top of their lungs while banging on pots and pans. For a newcomer like me this was a surprise. Now I find it quite amusing and the ruckus at 12 AM makes me smile. :)

Goodbye EE 150L. Somehow I won't miss it.

Unfortunately my nap was too long and I have wasted several critical study hours. Nothing seems to motivate me to get out of bed, though. Someone light a fire under me.

My fluids final exam in almost exactly 48 hours from now. The MEMS exam was killer, just like the midterm. I should have known it would be after I overslept this morning and forgot part of the lab report I had to turn in. All signs point to disappointment. I am going to take a nap before hitting the books again. Maybe rest will lift my spirits.

My MEMS final exam is about twelve hours away. Between now and then I have to finish studying and write my equation sheet. I am very nervous. Also the laboratory report needs to be printed out so I can turn it in at the exam. Maybe I can get some sleep too.

I can't claim to be an expert electrician or decorator, but I am pretty sure this setup isn't the best idea. The picture was taken at the base of Dan's Christmas tree last night. Dan's grandmother isn't worried because the insurance has been paid up.

While I was at Dan's tonight I uploaded his digital pictures from our trip to Lake Tahoe. They are in the "Lake Tahoe 2002" section of the photo album, but they don't have names or descriptions yet. After my my film is developed, scanned, and posted I'll get around to that. Check out the red stocking cap I bought from the hotel ski shop. It's good thing too - that place was freezing! At least to me.

Today was my last day of fall quarter classes. Also today I skipped a class for the first time this quarter. But that's another story. Now it's time to bury myself in books in order to establish a decent UCLA GPA. I'm not looking forward to it.

During class this afternoon I felt ill thinking about all of the things I have to do by next Friday, the end of the UCLA fall quarter. As usual, I don't know when I am going to get everything done. I have a lab exam and homework due tomorrow. And I haven't studied or finished the homework. I really am going to be sick.

Now that I'm back in the relatively balmy climate of Southern California I can appreciate it more than ever. At times I was miserably cold in the Lake Tahoe area. As soon as I develop my roll of film, or I get some digital photos from Dan, I'll post some pictures. I have a lot to do before class tomorrow. I'd better get started.
