The usual feeling of impending doom is creeping into my mind as my midterm approaches. Failing seems to be the only possible outcome at this point, but that's a normal emotion for me two days before an exam. I have been putting off thinking about other obligations until Thursday after my test, so let's hope they don't get too overwhelming between now and then. Back to studying about photolithography.

Perpetuating my thrilling lifestyle, I'm spending my Sunday figuring out how to convert SLPM to L/min and assessing the accuracy of pressure gauges for my research. I need to be studying for my MEMS midterm on Thursday, however. The level of excitment just keeps rising.

Another Saturday spent mostly at leisure. Somehow the pressures of the week to come don't seem to affect me until I wake up on Sunday morning. I have been working on my research and homework this evening, however. That, and I'm watching the Star Wars trilogy on the lookout for my favorite "I have a bad feeling about this" quotes. I have the fullscreen, special edition version of the movies and now I wish I had the widescreen, original release version. "Return of the Jedi" just isn't the same without the Ewok music at the end.

My life is boring. At least temporarily. I am spending the evening figuring out how to use Mathcad and watching reality TV. What a great program. Mathcad, that is, not reality TV. I taped tonight's episode of "American Idol" so I'll find out who the newest finalists are when I watch it. I voted for the girl with pink hair.

A new diary entry has been posted. It's a tribute to the space shuttle Columbia. The shuttle was in Palmdale, CA during the summer of 2000 and I was able to go visit it there. I realize that it's been three months since my last diary entry and, I must admit, this isn't a literary masterpiece, but I wanted share my personal experiences. The pictures in the entry have also been posted in the "Columbia 08.12.00" section of my photo album.

After much tinkering with HTML and layout I finally have a new website design. Pink is my favorite color and, since I don't have the complexion to wear it, I must resort to putting it on my webpage. Now I need to see if I can transfer this design to all of my pages (diary, archives, about me, etc.).

I got my new handheld today! It's a Palm m130 and it's charging on the cradle right now. Next I need to see if I can transfer the data from my Handspring onto the Palm so I don't have to completely start over. I am so excited to have a new toy!

For Valentine's Day Dan and I stood in a line around the block to see "Daredevil" at the theater where it premiered. And after all that, here's what we got out of the movie:
"How do you kill a man without beer?"
"By puttin' the beer in 'im."

Happy birthday Dan! The rain seems to have let up today just for you. After forty-eight hours. In other news, the "Daredevil" premiere pictures are now in the correct order and the last three photos in "Disneyland 2003" are new.

So my pictures from the "Daredevil" premiere could have been better. It's gonna take more than imagination to see any famous people in them. So, for each picture I put in my photo album, I have included a zoomed in version with the celebrity circled and labeled. If you don't believe me, check out the premiere photos at Wire Image to verify the stars' outfits. For some reason I can't rearrange the pictures in the "Daredevil Premiere" section right now, but I'll work on it.

A best picture Oscar nomination for "The Two Towers" somehow validates the fact that I've seen it four times. At least to me. It's been a long time since I went to a theater to see a movie that many times. Probably since "The Lion King" during the summer of 1994. My friends and I were crazy about it. Anyway, TTT received five other nominations, but all in technical categories. To an engineer, however, those are as impressive as any others.

Much to my delight, I purchased tickets for "The Producers" yesterday. I was so exicted to discover that it is playing at the Pantages Theatre starting in May. Granted I couldn't get decent seats until August 24, but that's beside the point. I'm going to see "The Producers" (eventually)!

I just got back from the "Daredevil" premiere and guess who I saw there? Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Lopez, and Scott Foley. I was standing across the street from the theater, but I did get a few pictures of the scene. You might even be able to see those famous people in some of them. I'll post them when they are devloped just to prove that I didn't make the whole thing up.

While (slowly) downloading PowerPoint lecture notes I am trying to decide which handheld I want to replace my (pitifully) broken Handspring. At this point I am debating between the (monocrome) Palm m500 and the (color) Palm m130. Battery life may end up being more important than the color option. Since my product replacement money is tied up in a Staples card I suppose that will dictate my purchase. I feel lost without my handheld and I can't wait to have another one! A pocket notebook just isn't a suitable substitute.

I just discovered that Mann's Village Theater (where I saw TTT this afternoon) is hosting the "Daredevil" premiere tomorrow at 5 PM. I'll have to stop by. In other news, I read at The Leaky Cauldron that Amazon is promising to deliver Order of the Phoenix on it's publishing day. I knew there was a reason I stayed loyal to them.

My fourth viewing of "The Two Towers" occurred at the Mann's Village Theater in Westwood where movie premieres are held. I can see why; it was quite fancy inside. Take a look at the pictures I found on the Mann Theaters website. Now that I am saturated with Lord of the Rings I need to read about silicon wafer processing for class. Talk about a step down.

You know you're up too late when the CNN anchors are telling you (and all other West Coast residents) to go to sleep.

Boy do I wish my computer had a functioning battery. Having to turn it off every time I want to move it from the desk to the kitchen table is annoying. I've gotta stop posting my thoughts in the middle of the night. They're just weird.

I had the most horrible day on Friday. Then Saturday morning came and my problems paled in comparison to those I saw unfolding on television. When I visited the Palmdale Boeing facility in August 2000 the Columbia was there for part of its overhaul. I'm finding it hard to believe that it's gone. On Friday night I planned to write a diary entry this weekend to appease Dan's fraternity brother's "addiction" to my webpage, but the topic I had in mind was forgotten the next day. Hopefully I will have a chance the the next couple of days to post something concerning the tragedy.

"The space shuttle Columbia, with seven astronauts aboard, broke up as it descended over central Texas today before a planned landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida."
