Spring break. These two words generally bring about a positive frame of mind. However, this has been a particularly trying week for me and I am glad it is almost over. To better explain myself I have posted my spring break diary entry. On a positive note, I discovered that I got a B in my fluid stability class. Much better than I expected.

Is it wrong to wish spring break was already over? 'Cause I do. And if that's wrong, boy do I wish I was right.

Ways to unwind: 1) Leaving all traces of my research project in my backpack, 2) Reading Harry Potter fanfiction, 3) Watching American Idol (voted for Josh).

If my experiment was alive I'd kill it. So many things have been going wrong that I'm beginning to expect a higher power has intervened. How else can my complete lack of usable data be explained? Excuse me while I go kick something.

Although it's spring break I went to the lab this morning to run some experiments, but apparently UCLA is observing Caesar Chavez Day. So I wasn't able to do anything since the buildings were locked. Then, on the way home, I went to the bank and had to show ID to go inside. I think they may to taking security risks a little too seriously. Right now I am watching "Children of Dune" and thinking of the things I should be doing instead. But not doing them.

"I've known a wind so cold, I've seen the darkest days. But now the winds I feel are only winds of change." One day I'm going to walk out of an exam in a good mood. Until then I'll do my best to enjoy spring break. (Quote courtesy of the song "Faith of the Heart")

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." And for me that would be studying between now and 3 PM tomorrow. The UCLA ritual screaming took place at midnight, just a few minutes ago (see 12.12.02 post for explanation). As usual, it made me smile. (Quote courtesy of "Fellowship of the Ring," movie, not book)

I could have used the luck of the Irish today, but it just wasn't happening. The professor and I were the only ones wearing the obligatory green, but we were also the only ones would could possibly be of Irish descent. At least one exam is over. Too bad I still have to study for another one. Happy St. Patrick's Day just the same.

"I have a bad feeling about this." My first final exam is in less than seven hours and I still have a lot of material to review before then. Like I emailed a classmate earlier today, I think I'm going to be sick. (Quote courtesy of every Star Wars movie, to date)

"So history is just circling the drain at this point." Not history, maybe, but certainly the near future. I always feel this way a few days before a test, though. (Quote courtesy of the MST: 3K episode, "Time Chasers")

"I'm a genius, not an engineer!" Wait, scratch that. Can I claim to be both? It's late and my brain is fried from studying, I can be whatever I want. (Quote courtesy of "The Man in the Iron Mask")

Yesterday I went to my last class of the UCLA winter quarter. Now I only have three days of studying time before my final exams on Monday and Tuesday. Not nearly long enough, but there's nothing I can do about it.

For someone I've never met, I'm developing an unnatural attachment to Clay Aiken on "American Idol." That aside, I'm trying to work on my MEMS homework, but my computer keeps freezing up. It's happened about five times so far and I'm getting very annoyed. The problem is either an inadequate processor or a misguided attempt to put my homework in printable form. That's what I get for asking a computer to calculate stuff. As if that were it's job. I should have relied on my trusty TI-85 (circa 1994) calculator instead.

Even I thought it might never happen, but I've posted a new diary entry. While spending way too much time for my research experiment to behave normally I wrote about my day on my Palm Pilot. It drained about half of the battery power and I kept getting annoyed with spelling errors, but it was worth it. Maybe. I love my laptop keyboard.

Due to an anti-war demonstration at the Westwood VA building I got off the 405 at Sunset Boulevard. This put my drive home through Bel Air. The multi-million dollar mansions that lined the road were somewhat different than the rundown student apartments I usually see on my drive home.

I've been hooked on "American Idol" ever since I heard that my cousin had done well in the audition process. Like a diligent viewer I voted (or attempted to) every week. So who's gonna win? Hopefully one of the three finalists I picked out during these past five weeks.

1) Could only get a busy signal
2) Clay Aiken (OK, so he didn't advance this time)
3) Vanessa Olivarez (became a finalist)
4) Joshua Gracin (became a finalist)
5) Clay Aiken (this time he became a finalist)

"You can't just go [to jury duty]. It's not like Supercuts!"
"The Nanny"

(In lieu of posting a really boring update here's a funny quote instead. I always watch "The Nanny" from 12-1 AM so I guess this is sort of an update. The really boring part still applies, though. Two weeks until finals and this is the extent of my life. One day I promise to have something exciting to write about.)

The level of messiness in my apartment is the same as it was during the week, but now it bothers me. Since it's the weekend I have time to do more than glance around the room and promptly remember something more important I need to do. I guess this means I'll have to clean. At least I can watch Star Wars at the same time.
