"If you are unsure where to go, incapable of normal speech, or unable to remember why you are here, our Welcome Witch will be pleased to help." It wasn't a spell that made me incapable of normal speech - it was finishing Order of the Phoenix last night. How horrible. I don't think anything could have kept me from enjoying the book, though. How long will we have to wait to find out what happens next?

Two years ago, at about this time, I was nervous about going on my first date with Dan. And, since he's been out of town for practically the last two weeks, I am excited about seeing him today too.

I am in the middle of two things. First, I read up to page 350 yesterday and page 570 today in Order of the Phoenix. It is very intense. I was biting my fingers with anxiety at one point. Second, I started watching Terminator 2. I am going to be up to speed when T3 is released next month. My devotion to pop culture is a bit prevalent right now.

With the addition of another book with a two-inch spine, the same size as Goblet of Fire, I have an immediate need for a new bookshelf. It was already necessary, but now my books are piled on the kitchen table as well as my desk. Speaking of Order of the Phoenix, it has been extremely difficult to keep from reading my favorite Harry Potter fan sites. While I am anxious to know what the general public thinks of the book I don't want to inadvertantly stumble upon any plot spoilers. I don't want to know who dies before I read it for myself. We'll see how long that takes, considering how slowly I read.

My Order of the Phoenix just arrived!

There is a huge paper cut-out of a person on the roof of the Mann Village Theatre. I noticed it as I was walking home this afternoon. It was covered up, but it must be there for the T3 premiere on June 30. I'll have to take a picture of it. Speaking of Terminator, I think I'll watch the original tonight. I need to refresh my memory before T3 is released and it will to keep my mind off the impending arrival of Order of the Phoenix. Amazon tells me it will arrive before 8 PM tomorrow. I hope much before. So, as all the Harry Potter fan sites are saying, see you on the flip side.

Life has been boring since the end of the spring quarter. I am beginning my summer research and planning my trip to New York City. I have one night scheduled so far with reservations for dinner at Tavern on the Green and tickets to see "Gypsy" on Broadway afterwards. Of course I'm excited about my vacation, but right now I'm practically bursting over Order of the Phoenix. After waiting three years we are down to the last three days. Still, Saturday won't come soon enough.

I'm not sure what this says about their relative popularity, but Target was completely out of Clay's new single tonight while at least twenty of Ruben's were still there. Interesting, but annoying since I actually wanted to buy Clay's. One thing I did purchase today was my plane ticket to New York City. And since I reserved a hotel room the other day my vacation is pretty well planned. Now I need to decide which Broadway shows I want to see.

"But here's the nice thing about being a force of primal passion: crisis is yours to create. And you can always rise, Phoenix-like, above it." I suppose an "all's well that ends well" is called for. Believe it or not I walked out of my exam this afternoon feeling optimistic. Maybe there's hope for my GPA after all. But now that my finals are over I am not going to worry about it. I'm not going to worry about much of anything. At least not tonight. (Quote courtesy of Enertainment Weekly, 5/9/03)

"You know, it's just not death with dignity if there's an Estevez in the room." As far as I know my rocket propulsion final exam was Estevez-free, so my dignity was maintained as I killed my chances for a decent GPA this quarter. Now I have tomorrow's compressible flow exam to prepare for. One of these days I'll get some sleep. (Quote courtesy of the MST: 3K episode, "Soultaker")

"EOMER: Hi! Okay, stop me if you've heard this one. An elf, a man, and a dwarf walk into the Riddermark..." It's more fun to post silly quotes rather than ones that reflect my current stress level. My first final is less than twelve hours away so that level is quite high. Does anyone know how a turbopump works? That's probably something I need to figure out. "Refused to let Arwen attend Council of Elrond, as if she does, she will certainly notice I have borrowed her tiara." Since studying is confusing me right now I decided to post a quote that makes just as much sense. It represents the chaos of finals week. And the coordinate chaos of my apartment at the moment. It'll get cleaned sometime after Wednesday. (Quote courtesy of "The Very Secret Diary of Elrond" by Cassandra Claire)

"Ron looked worried. 'You didnīt kill Malfoy, did you? Thatīs gonna be hard to explain when we get back home. You'll get detention for sure.' " Last quarter I posted a quote for each day I suffered during finals and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue the tradition. This one is in anticipation of Order of the Phoenix, which will arrive on my doorstep in exactly two weeks. Until then I have to focus on studying for my exams. Not exciting, but necessary. So I missed my last class of the spring quarter this morning. My alarm went off at 7 AM, but I managed to avoid waking up until 9 AM (when class started). I need to suppress my laziness for the next few days while I prepare for finals. My cabinet is full of poptarts and my fridge is full of caffinated soda. I'm all set for a weekend of studying.

I know I am supposed to be studying for my final exams, seeing as how they are in less than a week, but instead I am trying on jeans. This is an attempt to follow another one of my spending rules, "No more buying clothes until I take the ones I don't wear to Goodwill." I can't bring myself to part with any of my jeans, though. Another way to avoid studying is watching Gollum interrupt Andy Serkis while accepting an MTV Movie Award. And going to the grocery store. That's where I'm off to now.

It's hard to believe, but I just finished my last homework assignment of the spring quarter. However, I still have to survive finals. Today I made a mental list of all of the things I'll have time to do this summer. It was a nice thought, but it took my attention away from my last rocket propulsion lecture for a few minutes. Even the smallest part of an exam review should not be missed.

I'm sitting in my lab this morning, holding office hours (even though probably no one will show up), scanning lecture notes for the class I'm TAing, listening to an NPR report on the rise of Wal-Mart, and wondering where the weekend went.
