Apparently the TA Union is upset with the University and a strike has been suggested to help move along negotiations. How exactly does a TA go on strike? Am I supposed to throw down my books and refuse to hold class? The horror of empty offices and ungraded papers. I can understand not going to a job when you're on strike, but my TA position is half of my job as a graduate student. (Yes, being a graduate student is a job.) We'll see how it turns out.

"I want to see how the Braves are doing after all this time. Prob'ly still finding ways to lose." Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs. The Major League Baseball post season has begun and my worst fears have come to pass. Not just becuase the Braves have a terrible post season record, but because the match up is synonymous with Lauren vs. Dan. This could get ugly. (Quote courtesy of "Star Trek: The Next Generation")

The Return of the King trailer is now available on the official movie website. I highly recommend watching it. Then rewatching it. And rewatching it again several times while trying not to burst with anticipation. It's very difficult.

On Sundays I spend quality time with my laptop. Today, for example, I read the websites of my favorite authors, paid my utility bills, updated my Amazon wishlist, and typed up some thoughts for my webpage. It's pretty obvious I'm doing my best not to think about school. I can't believe I have to go to class in the morning. On Friday I had great plans to get organized over the weekend, but my backpack is still sitting on the floor where I dropped that afternoon. This is not advisable behavior during the school year. I miss the summer already.

The main reason I went to see Secondhand Lions last night with Dan was the Return of the King trailer. And while I enjoyed the movie it couldn't hope to compare to the preview. The third Lord of the Rings installment looks like it's going to be fabulous, but I'll probably love it despite any discernible flaws. Hopefully the trailer will be available on the official website soon because I didn't absorb everything during the first viewing. And the seats at the theater (AMC Avco Center) were too uncomfortable to go there again.

I didn't realize how relaxing the summer was until today. The fall quarter has officially begun and so have my obligations to my TA position and schoolwork. These next four months promise to be busy ones, but hopefully they will provide interesting stuff for me to write about. More than I've had in the past couple of weeks.

Once again I am unimpressed with Enterprise. Now they are borrowing not only from past Star Trek storylines, but also from other franchises. In last week's episode the crew appears to have encountered the Death Star. "That's no moon, it's a space station!" And yet I continue to watch.

The difference between this Friday and the last is that, after I got home from the lab, I didn't think about my research once. I've already devoted plenty of time to it this week and I want to have a relaxing weekend. The last one before the fall quarter since classes start on Thursday. Maybe then I'll have something more exciting to write about.

When I first established my webpage I intended to write about more than the everyday tedium of life. But this week my grand plan has lead to the posting of more stuff I'm embarrassed to admit. At least it lead to a new diary entry as well. I compiled my weekly television schedule (while watching the season premiere of Enterprise) and decided it was interesting enough to share. Well, maybe not interesting, but at least amusing.

I could have bought several things I kind of liked at South Coast Plaza today. Notably denim capris that weren't quite my size, a khaki corduroy skirt that wasn't exactly what I wanted, and a denim miniskirt that cooler weather will keep me from wearing before next summer. But I resisted temptation and saved a lot of money. That doesn’t mean I am without regret. If those items had been ideal I would have bought them in an instant. As my mom has told me, sometimes I am such a girl.

Tonight is the first night this week that I've done any schoolwork. When I leave the lab in the afternoons I usually I have great intentions of working on my research, but when I get home these thoughts are completely out of my head. But tonight I analyzed some experimental data, registered for a meeting in October, and compiled a list of things I need to accomplish this weekend. Not the most exciting evening, but at least it was productive. The summer is almost over and I need to take advantage of what's left of this relatively free time.

"Maybe the Braves fans just needed to band together and convince each other that the boogie man wasn't going to get them again - not like the other times." I was reading an article about the most exciting MLB pennant races and the Atlanta Braves were mentioned for their 1993 National League West victory, even though they didn't make it to the World Series that year. Losses in the postseason are something Braves' fans have gotten used to since about 1991. The "boogie man" has become a familiar figure. Let's just hope this year has a different outcome. As promised, here is one of the updates I have been working on. It took me several hours to write, but I have just posted a new diary entry dealing with my latest batch of spending rules. I figured I should explain them better than I have before. And now that the diary entry is posted I am going to sleep.

So I haven't really been keeping up with my webpage lately. That much should be obvious. I have several updates in the works, but they aren't ready for publication just yet. When I am finished in the lab today I'll work on them. It'll definitely be more exciting than my research.

Here are two pictures of the bridesmaid dress Meghan picked out for her wedding. I got them from the David's Bridal website so I hope I will look as good in it as the model does! The dress will be hunter green, the color in the first picture, but you can see the details better in periwinkle, the color in the second picture. Since the Tallahassee store didn't have a size 2 dress for me to try on last weekend I have to go to South Coast Plaza to make sure it'll fit before I place my order. I had to call three stores in LA before finding one that had a size 2. What's a skinny girl to do?
