Here are todayís two big accomplishments. You decide which is bigger.
1) I went my first meeting where I was an active participant and it was a welcome change
2) I drank five 24 oz. bottles of water, two during a boring meeting (different meeting)

My meeting with the personal trainer:
Trainer: "So, you had a ballet instructor. How was that?"
Me: "Um, fine..."

I think he was trying to learn something about my fitness history with that question, but I can't for the life of me figure out what. It's not like there much to tell about a ballet class I took in high school. Whatever.

Yesterday was interesting. First, I made someone at Barnes and Noble go down to their receiving department to get me a copy of the new Princess Diaries book. It was released yesterday and since I haven't bought a book since Thanksgiving I wasn't going to wait any longer. I got the book, but that means I am now in the middle of reading three books. Sheesh. Second, I went to 24 Hour Fitness to try out their Turbo Kick Box class. Big mistake. I spent most of the time trying to figure out the crazy moves and failing miserably. When I did get the moves right the impact was too high and it hurt my knee. I don't think I'll be going back to that particular class, but there are a few others I want to try before joining the gym. I'm meeting with a personal trainer today so we'll see how that goes.

Todayís positive focus: Iím getting a tax refund!

I just filed my federal and state taxes and I feel great. Besides getting my taxes out of the way, I discovered that Iím getting an almost $1400 refund! What a wonderful surprise. I only got a few hundred dollars back last year and I wasnít expecting any more this year, but Iíll take it. Iíve been fretting over my finances for months so this refund will allow me to pay my bills without worrying about my bank account balances everyday. Even though I am working now I canít seem to put much into savings each month. This tax refund is going to help me out a lot.

Now I remember what I love about ďHoliday InnĒ (1942 movie with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire) Ė the exploding peach preserves. Oh yeah, and the incredible singing and dancing. When I found out that the Seal Beach library had a copy I just had to check it out. And since tomorrowís Easter it seemed appropriate to watch a movie about holidays. The exploding peach preserves were just a bonus.

After a week without an update I feel I should have written something fascinating to mark my return, but I promised myself I would post what the girl at Target said about the socks. It was just too funny. But not fascinating. So what would you think if I told you that I actually decided not to buy the new Radio Disney CD when I was at Target? I know, Iím shocked too. What isnít surprising is that I already have most of the songs on other CDs so the new album wouldnít have been worth the expense. So I bought the Ice Princess soundtrack instead. Still not fascinated? I passed up doughnuts at a meeting this morning. If thatís not fascinating, considering my overpowering sweet tooth, I donít know what is.

When I left for work this morning my gym bag was packed and waiting for me beside the door. Same as yesterday. When I walked out to my car after work this afternoon my gym bag was in my trunk and waiting for me to pick it up. Unlike yesterday. I donít particularly like the aerobics class on Wednesday but after forgetting my gym bag yesterday I couldnít miss two classes in a row without feeling guilty. I really need to join another gym so I have more class choices. Remembering to bring my gym bag with me to work wouldnít hurt either.

Check out "Mammoth Mountain 2005" and "Phoenix 2005" in my photo album for pictures from recent weekend trips. Some of them turned out great. I especially like the picture of me wearing ski goggles. Dan says I look like a bug. What do you think? The photos need names and descriptions, but it's late now and I'm tired. So I'm going to bed. Good night.

Dan and I had a great time in Phoenix, even though the Cubs lost both of the games we attended. Fortunately that was the only disappointment of the trip. Everything else turned out just fine. Now I have a bunch for pictures from Mammoth Mountain two weeks ago and from Phoenix that need to be posted. As soon as I get around to editing and uploading them Iíll let you know, but I am just too exhausted to do it tonight. My mom is coming to LA on Friday for a visit and I have a lot to do before she arrives. I got some of my laundry done after I got home from the gym today, but now Iím too tired to make my bed so I can go to sleep. What an annoying situation.

I watched "The O.C" tonight just to see the new Star Wars preview. I would never even think to watch "The O.C." otherwise, even though I am technically a resident. Anyway, the preview was pretty cool.

Dan and I are going to Phoenix this weekend because thatís where the Cubs have spring training. I got him tickets to two games for his birthday, both against our hometown Los Angeles (previously Anaheim) Angels. Right now Iím watching "The Iron Giant" that I checked out from the library because itís due on before we get back. Iíll need to stop by the library on my way to work tomorrow and drop off a couple of things. Too bad it wonít be open that early because I need another book to read. I guess Iíll have to take one I own on the trip. Weird.

I haven't posted yet this week, but I will soon. I'm not giving a specific time because we've seen how well that works out. I have a lot to do before this weekend, but tonight I just want to read a book and go to bed. So that's what I'm gonna do.

I havenít done much clothes shopping recently because of my financial situation, but I went to the mall today to look for some khakis for work. Last week I felt like I wore the same outfit everyday (white shirt and black pants) and I knew something had to be done. I can rationalize buying clothes for work on my tight budget, but I loved the less than sensible miniskirts, tank tops, and shorts that I saw too. Fortunately I was able to avoid purchasing any of those and I left with two pairs of khaki pants instead. And a skirt and a pair of shoes. But theyíre for work too. Really. At least it was all on sale.

I started a new job on Monday. Actually, itís the job I was originally hired for and I was finally able to start it this week. After spending three months doing an electrical engineerís job I am very excited to be working on something thatís more suited to my educational background. Reading up on my program was like a breath of fresh air after staring at wire diagrams. Unfortunately I was in seemingly endless meetings all week where I spent most of my time trying to decipher acronyms. There were so many that I felt like I was swimming in them. I know itís only a matter of time before I figure out what everyone is talking about, though. I am really looking forward to that.

I started putting DVDs on hold at the library last week after I discovered that you can check out more than books there. I am very excited. This way I only have to pay a quarter to watch the newest movie releases without purchasing them. I should be able to save some money and thatís always a plus. I may have to wait two months to get my hands on a copy of ďSpider-Man 2Ē but itíll be worth it. At the moment Iím watching the Aladdin special edition DVD that I decided not to buy because it wasnít worth spending $20 on a movie I already own. Itís the original video release from 1993 no less. I am so cool.

I guess I should have mentioned that the picture I posted yesterday was the view from our window at Mammoth Mountain. Isnít that a gorgeous sight? As usual Dan has most of the pictures from the trip on his camera, but he left for DC this morning so Iíll have to wait for him to get back before I can post them. Until then the most memorable souvenirs I have from the weekend are the bruises on my legs. In an attempt to advance my snowboarding skills I fell quite a few times and injured myself in the process. I am cautiously optimistic that I made some progress, despite the falling (and the whining and the bad attitude). Unfortunately when Dan and I went to the top of the mountain in the passenger gondola I was too terrified of the height to appreciate the view. I did appreciate the beauty of Mammoth Mountain, just not while we were standing in the wind on the top of the mountain.
