Happy Halloween! Here’s what our jack-o-lanterns looked like yesterday. Dan’s were still doing pretty well, but mine was fading fast. The lesson we learned was to carve our pumpkins a bit closer to Halloween. You should see how they looked today. I’ll post those pictures tomorrow.

Here’s a picture of this year’s Halloween costumes. Dan was Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, complete with glasses, pocket protector, and sometimes working homemade webshooters. They were absolutely ingenious and I can vouch for their functionality because they were working a while before we left for the party. I have the silly string on the wall outside my apartment to prove it. I was dressed as Kool-Aid Man. I had the idea a long time ago and Dan was determined to make it happen. We found a large plastic cauldron at the Hollywood Costume Shop, spray painted it red, epoxied the handle to it, and applied black contact paper for the face. Dan did most of the work so he deserves most of the credit, but I did make the face myself. It was a big hit at the party last night. Someone even broke off the handle trying to give Kool-Aid man a hug. Everyone loves Kool-Aid.

Here are two pictures of the jack-o-lanterns that Dan and I carved last weekend. Mine is the one in the middle and was done using a stencil from the Homestar Runner website. Dan’s creations are the two on the outside and are much more creative than mine. He also used more exotic pumpkins than I did. All three jack-o-lanterns turned out really well and look great on his front porch. At least they used to...

The dialogue in my head is more interesting than what's going on in my life. But Dan and I are going to the annual Halloween party tonight where we get to show off your fabulous costumes, so that'll be a lot of fun. Tomorrow I'll have pictures of the costumes as well as the jack-o-lanterns we made last weekend. I can't believe it's almost Halloween. The year is going by so fast.

Today was cold and gloomy – the perfect weather to curl up in bed and watch TV. I was thisclose to skipping aerobics this afternoon and doing just that, but I made myself go to the gym anyway. But everyone else seemed to have the same thought about the weather that I did because I was the only one who showed up for class today. So I had my own private aerobics class. Sharon, the instructor, even tailored the routine so that I wouldn’t hurt my knee. It was like having a personal trainer. I’m so glad I went.
I found twenty dollars on the floor at Target yesterday. I felt so bad that someone had lost their money, so I took it to customer service. The money was put in the lost and found for someone to claim. It’s a long shot, but it was all I could do and it made me feel a little better. If no one claims it in thirty days I can keep the twenty dollars. I suppose I could have pocketed it yesterday, but I felt terrible for the person who had lost it. What if it had been me?
P.S. Dan and I made awesome jack-o-lanterns this weekend, but I forgot to get the pictures off his camera. I’ll post them as soon as I can.

Julie: “What’s your name again?”
Julie: “Oh yeah. I was calling you the girl with the blond ponytail and words across her shorts.”
This conversation took place at the gym this afternoon. I learned that if you wear workout shorts with “GATORS” printed across the butt you will be defined by them. I guess it’s not the worst way to be described, but it’s still pretty weird. Instead of being “pretty” or “smart” I’m a “troublemaker” and “that girl with the words across her shorts.” Oh well.
P.S. The Angels aren’t in the playoffs anymore. Any team I root for is ultimately doomed.

"Someone should tell the Angels they're in the playoffs."

At work today my co-workers decided I should change my title to "Engineer/Troublemaker." Maybe I should have that printed on my business cards. It's true, though. I'm not the origin of the problems, but in my job I have to make a big deal out of them so that they get solved. Everyone in my group falls into the troublemaker category, but since so many of the issues turn up in my particular system I look like the biggest troublemaker of the bunch. At least I'm distinctive.
P.S. The Angels won on Tuesday, lost on Wednesday (due to a bad call), and lost again today. It doesn't look good.

“The Braves playing for their playoff lives.”
NLDS game 4, bottom of the 10th inning
...and they lost in the 18th inning. As far as the Braves go, I have four years worth of disappointment recorded on my webpage and a decade’s worth of frustration otherwise. That’s how long it’s been since they won the World Series. I can’t say I was surprised they lost today because they always do, but that doesn’t make it any easier. As I said last year, “I keep hoping that next year will be different, but it never is.” So ends another year of Braves baseball. The Angels are playing the Yankees in just a few minutes and they are just one game from winning their ALDS. Maybe I’ll have another chance to cheer for a winning team.

The Braves are leading the Astros 6 to 1 at the top of the seventh inning. And I’ve got my fingers crossed...

I am embarrassed to be a Braves fan. It's not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last, but after all these years it's getting really old.

I stayed late at work today to finish up a few things and then I went to Supercuts for a haircut. According to my webpage, my last haircut was November 18, 2004 so this one was long overdue. My hair had gotten ridiculously long so I had about four inches chopped off. It looks so much better. Currently I am watching the Angels vs. Yankees game and the Angels just tied it up in the top of the 6th inning. I am an Angels fan by proximity (just like everyone in Los Angeles was when they won the World Series three years ago), but a Braves fan by birth. I have big plans for Christmas shopping (yes, I know it’s a bit early) tomorrow, but I’ll make sure to be home to watch the Braves vs. Astros game in the afternoon.

I got home just in time to catch the last inning of the Braves vs. Astros game tonight. Watching the Braves win was great (and unusual for the postseason). Too bad they lost yesterday. I have lots more to say on this subject and several others, but I am too tired to write any more. Maybe I'll elaborate tomorrow.

"You're probably thinking 'here we go again for Atlanta', right? Fourteen consecutive division titles but only one world championship..."

My thoughts exactly.
