Something about these wedding invitations screams WRONG! But that doesn't seem to stop every stationery company from offering a variation on the same theme. I mean, what does that say about the groom?

If you can't tell from the above information, I've been searching for printable save the date cards online. My current favorites have little brides and grooms on them, like this one from Crane.

In other news, winter has finally arrived in Southern California. I noticed a good amount of snow on the mountains as I was driving to work this morning. The snow level dropped to around 3000 feet over the weekend and the low was in the 30s here in the LA Basin last night. I'll need to bundle up for Dan's first softball game on Wednesday. Brr!

On Friday night I was really bored watching Ice Dancing at the Olympics so I didn't expect much from it tonight. But after three of the first four pairs to skate fell down, something that never happens in ice dancing, it's a bit more interesting. Other than that, I've had a pretty dull weekend. Dan's been out of town since Thursday night so I've just been relaxing. It's been nice, but now it's time to face the upcoming week. Good night.

Our new house!

As I furtively mentioned yesterday, Dan and I bought a house! We saw the house on Saturday (our first day of house hunting) and made an offer that evening. On Monday we received a counter offer from the builder and then made our own counter offer. From what our realtor said we were pretty sure it would be accepted, but we didnít find out for sure that it was until yesterday afternoon. Escrow opened today. So Dan and I are now (almost) homeowners! Our new place is in Redondo Beach which is a great neighborhood and itís closer Danís workplace. Iíll have a longer commute, but at least Iíll always be driving against traffic. Dan and I are planning to go and take some pictures of the house soon, but for now I just have one from the MLS listing. Even so, it still looks fabulous.

Happy Valentine's Day! It was a great day because I got to see my wonderful fiance twice. To celebrate we had a homemade dinner at my apartment and watched the Olympics. Plus, we bought a house. More details tomorrow.

While watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Turin I filed my federal and state tax returns. I knew I was getting a refund from the federal return, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I will receive a refund from the state return as well. I thought I was going to owe taxes to the state of California this year, but the online calculator told me otherwise. I will net a little more than $700, even after subtracting the $19.95 it cost me to file my federal return through TurboTax. (Why canít the IRS have free online tax filing like the state of California?) That money, along with my annual bonus from work, will go directly into my savings account in preparation for the deposit Dan and I will make when we book our wedding venue. That way itís going towards a wonderful cause.

Written sometime in mid-January:
ďAs a final note, I love my new contacts but I donít think they fit my eyes correctly. If I donít blink often enough they slide out of place and blur my vision. I have a follow up visit to the optometrist on Wednesday so maybe I can try another brand or something. Being able to see without having to worry about my glasses is wonderful, though.Ē

I feel sorry for my optometrist. Sheís given me four different types of contact lenses to try and none of them fit correctly. At my third follow-up appointment today I could tell she was getting frustrated and I felt exactly the same way. Apparently my problems with the lenses are unlike anything sheís ever seen. When I told her that my first pair slid out of place she gave me another pair with a tighter curvature. That was the textbook solution for my particular complaint, but it only exacerbated the problem. The next time the optometrist tried going the other direction with a pair of lenses that had a looser curvature. Wrong again. So today was my third follow-up appointment and now I have a forth and fifth pair of contacts to try, and I already know that the one doesnít work. Maybe the fifth timeís the charm? Letís hope the pair of contacts I have stashed in my purse are the ones Iím looking for. No pun intended.

Dan and I are going to a Super Bowl party in San Diego tomorrow and Iím making a fruit salad to take with us. For the health conscious partygoers I bought apples, pears, plums, grapes, and strawberries. Hopefully this will keep me from eating lots of fattening foods instead. I also got some turkey dogs for the same purpose. Once you pile on the condiments all hot dogs taste the same anyway.

Speaking of health, since I was lazy about going to the gym this week I went this morning and lifted weights. It took an hour and a half to do all of my weekly exercises, but Iím glad I did. Now I donít feel quite so guilty. Sticking to my New Yearís resolution of working out five times a week is really hard, but the thought of my wedding keeps me going.

"Rowling released the sixth book in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, last July, while the seventh and final installment is expected by the end of the year."
Yahoo! News article

That's probably accurate if by "the year" they mean 2007 or 2008. I have no idea where they got their information, but there doesn't seem to be any indication that Book 7 will be published this year. I think JK Rowling would be a fool to publish it any earlier than next summer.
