I've said it before and I'll say it again - private snowboard lessons are worth every penny! But more on that later. We made it to Mammoth Mountain last night around 10 PM after a very long drive. Today was our first day of snowboarding and we shared the slopes with quite a few other people who are here to celebrate New Year's. It was pretty packed. To try and improve my snowboarding skills, I spent two hours this afternoon in a private lesson and it was fantastic. I'm finally starting to link turns together and that's one of the most important elements of snowboarding. It's possible that one day I won't consider myself a horrible snowboarder!

P.S. One year ago today Dan and I got engaged!

It's been a whirlwind few days since Christmas Eve and today Dan and I are driving up to Mammoth Mountain with some friends. We had a wonderful Christmas with just the two of us at home. I think we watched five movies on Christmas Day, including going to see Eragon at the theater! We will be at Mammoth for three days of snowboarding/relaxing and we'll be back in LA for New Year's Eve. What a busy holiday!

Merry Christmas Eve! Dan and I went to see The Nutcracker at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center this afternoon. It wasn't the traditional ballet that I was expecting, but we still enjoyed it. Since I was a only mediocre ballerina in my younger years I was very envious of the girls on stage. I've always loved ballter, but I was never very good at it. Tomorrow Dan and I are planning to open presents, go see Eragon at the movie theater (I can't wait!), and have a nice dinner at home. Sounds like a wonderful Christmas to me!

At the Boeing Fitness Center this morning:
Man - "We need to work on our social lives if we're here two days before Christmas!"
Me - "I'm getting married in six months - I need to be here!

I've lost five pounds since Thanksgiving which is an accomplishment for me. It wasn't long ago that I was terrified that my wedding dress wouldn't fit when it came in. But then I got sick last month and I've been losing weight since then, so now I'm not worried about fitting into the dress anymore. I ordered it back in July and it should be arriving at the bridal shop very soon (probably in January). I love the dress more every time I think about it. Only six months until the wedding!

It seems JK Rowling has released the title of the last Harry Potter Book - "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Unless, of course, she's playing a trick on us! (Conicidentally, I discovered this news about five minutes before it was reported on the LA evening news.)

More Christmas pictures are now available in the "Christmas 2006" section of my online photo album. And that's not all! This year we also have a short Christmas home video. We inherited the angel on the top of our tree from Dan's grandmother, Mitzi. He plugs into a strand of lights and moves his arms and wings back and forth. Mitzi named him Gabriel, but you'll understand how he got his nickname when you watch the videos.

Video #1: Gabe the Wheezing Angel (turn the volume way up for this one)
Video #2: Gabe the Wheezing Angel Blooper (my first attempt at the video)

In a few minutes I will be on my way to my last aerobics class of 2006. It's not a class I usually go to, but I'm more motivated to work out with a group than by myself. The classes I normally attend ended yesterday for the year. I will miss them (until January 2 when they start again). After today I'm on my own! For two weeks, at least.

Winter has come to California, and just in time for Christmas. For the past two days we've been treated with colder temperatures and much clearer air (i.e., less smog). It's not often we get a view of the snow-covered mountains from the beach, but we enjoy it while we do. And yesterday morning there was ice on my car! Ice! In California! That's the first time it's happened in the five winters I've lived here. Dan and I are going to Mammoth Mountain for New Year's with some friends so we're glad for the winter weather. That means there's natural snow in the mountains that'll be good for snowboarding. That doesn't mean that I'll be good at snowboarding, but at least the snow will be.

I had a really great day today. I was productive at work (all ten hours of it), didn't eat any junk food, drank plenty of water, and went to aerobics (the last Thursday class of 2006). Then I came home and ate my leftover garlic pesto pasta from Saturday night's dinner at The Stinking Rose and some fudge that Dan's mom sent us. It was delicious, but so unhealthful! I did get a lot done around the house, though. I wrapped some of Dan's Christmas presents, did some laundry, and finally made a decision about bridesmaids dresses for my wedding. It's about time, I know. My plan for the rest of the evening is to take out the trash, fold the clean laundry, and read a book. Exciting!

It's a good thing I'm pretty much over my cold and going to the gym again. My boss just told me that I AM going to our holiday lunch today, whether I was planning on it or not. Apparently she's being forced to go so she's forcing me to go too. So much for a healthy lunch. Then on Friday I've planned a holiday lunch with my old work group at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant where we'll eat fried chicken and boysenberry pie. And on Saturday Dan and I are having dinner at Grace, a very nice restaurant in Hollywood. I need my workouts more than ever!

Our Christmas tree

I really need to update my webpage more often! In other news, Dan and I are going to get our Christmas tree tomorrow morning and I'm very excited about that. It's no sectret how much I love Christmas and having a tree in the house makes me happy. We haven't decorated the outside of our house yet, but some of our neighbors have put up enough lights for the entire block. I need to take some pictures and post them to show you what I mean. Tomorrow night Dan and I are going to dinner at The Stinking Rose restaurant in Beverly Hills which specializes in garlic. We've discovered that just about any dish is better with garlic so this place should be perfect for us. It's going to be a busy weekend!

The Gators are going to the National Championship game. Oh yeah!
Posted at 6:26 PM, 2 Comments

I've said it before and I'll say it again - IT'S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR! I spent most of Friday and Saturday lying around watching TV because of a horrible cold that kept me from doing much else. This illness did allow me to watch Florida beat Arkansas in the SEC Championship game yesterday. Yeah! Plus at halftime I got to see the last 30 seconds of the UCLA vs. USC game that gave the Gators a chance at the National Championship game. I guess we'll find out later today if Florida or Michigan will be playing Ohio in January, but at least the Gators are in the running. Iíll have to see how well received the ďGO GATORS!Ē I wrote on my dry erase board at work earlier in the season (when Florida was ranked #2 for a week) is tomorrow since so many Southern Californians will be upset over USCís loss. The Trojan fans (yes, USC has the same mascot as my high school) have been teasing me for weeks, but I have a feeling theyíll be less cocky after yesterday. Thatís if Iím even well enough to go to work tomorrow.
