Lauren's Webpage...home of the "Engineer/Troublemaker"

Today I changed my name with Boeing. It'll take a few days to complete all of the paperwork, but sometime next week my work email address will refer to me as Lauren G. Feller. This is just the latest step in the name change process.

I've decided that the next time I have a little money to spare I'm going to buy a new pair of running shoes. Dan will probably go nuts when he reads this since I just bought some in January, but I can't remember the last time my feet didn't hurt during a workout. My last two pair of shoes were New Balance because they come in narrow widths, but both of them are extremely uncomfortable. I can't even wear the latest pair because they make my feet throb. I feel stupid for buying shoes that don't fit right, but I hate struggling at the gym because of the pain in my feet. I'd rather be limited by my fitness instead!

I got my new Social Security card that proclaims me to be Lauren Gleason Feller in the mail yesterday. Yeah! As soon as I opened the envelope I sat down at my computer and made an appointment at the DMV to get a new driver's license and change the name on my car title and registration. So next Thursday I will have photo identification with my new name on it. Exciting!

Dan got home from his extended business trip last Wednesday and we've been pretty much taking it easy since then. On Friday I worked late (something I needed to do), went to the gym (something I really needed to do), and then came home to a delicious dinner that Dan had prepared. Now that's luxury! We spent Friday evening watching television shows that were backlogged on TiVo while Dan was out of town (i.e., Mythbusters and Survivorman). On Saturday Dan and I both had to go to work, but then he was kind enough to make another wonderful dinner that was ready when I got home. In preparation for a future trip to the movies, we watched the first and second Bourne films on Saturday night so that I'll know what's going on in the third one. I spent Sunday doing housework (laundry and dishes) and cooking dinner (Greek pork wraps and pound cake with fruit topping) while Dan was at work. Then I went to bed early to make the transition to Monday a little easier. I think it actually worked!

Today I took the first step in changing my name by applying for a new Social Security Card. Just call me Lauren Gleason Feller! I didn't want to completely give up my maiden name so I just made it my middle name. When I get the new Social Security Card I can change my name on my driver's license as well. Signing my new last name will take some getting used to. Mrs. Lauren Feller. I guess I need to get a new email address too. This is complicated!

Reasons I'm looking forward to tomorrow:
1) Dan is coming home!
2) I took the day off work so I can pick him up from the airport.
3) This means I can sleep past 6 AM.
4) We're going to dinner with some old friends after his softball game.
5) Did I mention that Dan is coming home? HOORAY!

Since Yahoo Photos is closing I had to transfer all of my pictures to Flickr, but I made the mistake of not putting them on my main account. I thought they would get mixed up with the wedding photos make a mess. It turns out I was wrong. Now if I want my old pictures on my main account I'll have to upload them again. I'll get around to that one of these days. But for now at least, all of my photos from 2000 to 2006 can be found on my alternate Flickr account.

What I did today:
1) Took my car to the dealer for an oil change at 8:30 AM. At least I got some reading done while I waited.
2) Picked up a six-month supply of contacts at the optometrist.
3) Picked up a book and a movie at the library.
4) Went to work for six hours and only succeeded in tackling one section of one document. And I ended up more confused than when I started.
5) Didn't go to the gym because I am insanely lazy.
6) Came home and started to tackle the mountains of laundry that have been piling up.
7) Vowed to spend the evening watching movies.

I have a confession to make - after work and my dance lesson at Arthur Murray I came home and watched "High School Musical 2" (which I TiVoed earlier in the evening). This might not seem so bad by itself, but between work and dance lession I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the soundtrack too. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am such a dork.

Our fabulous wedding favor boxes

June 19th & 20th
I picked Käthe up at the airport on Tuesday and we immediately went back to the house and started working on wedding favors. While I baked cookies, Käthe assembled more than 60 silver boxes and stuck a green monogrammed sticker on top of each one. Then we tackled the wax paper. In order to put a square of wax paper underneath every cookie to keep them from sticking together, we needed to cut more than 300 of them. It was a daunting task, but we emerged victorious. As Käthe put it, we conquered the wax paper. In fact, with Käthe there we made more progress on the favors than I ever could have imagined. Having her there made me feel like I actually was going to get everything done in time for the wedding on Saturday!

Wednesday was my "bachelorette party" at Disneyland. I'd seen girls wearing Minnie Mouse bride ears every other time I'd been to Disneyland and it made me insanely jealous. Now it was my chance to be one of those girls! And being the wonderful person that she is, Käthe was kind enough to humor me. It wasn't long after we got there that I discovered two voicemails on my cell phone - one from the Hotel del Coronado AV department and the other from the wedding coordinator. So we sat down somewhere in New Orleans Square while I called them back and discussed every unresolved aspect of the wedding (not my idea of fun). While I was on the phone a lady, who I can only assume was a Disneyland cast member, walked by dressed as - to be as diplomatic as possible - a lady of the night. I didn't hear what she said, but according to Käthe we were propositioned. It was very bizarre. After that little incident I purchased the Minnie ears that I wanted (see previous post for proof) and had a blast wearing them all over the park. Cast members kept giving me "just married" buttons no matter how many times I told them I already had some. Other notable events: we managed to break the Haunted Mansion ride, we saw the new Jedi Training Camp and got jealous of the kids who got to cross lightsabers with Darth Vader, and we went to hell on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Quite a day. After we left Disneyland, Käthe and I picked up the wedding tuxes at Friar Tux (yes, that really is the store's name) and met Dan at Kings Hawaiian for dinner with his family. The rest of the evening/night was spent working on the wedding favors (baking more cookies and putting them in the boxes) and watching the most random assortment of movies imaginable - Goonies, Newsies, and Willow. It was a lot of fun even if we didn't get to bed until 3 AM. To be continued...

What I did today:
1) Went to the library to pick up some cookbooks I had on hold. The library is a great way to save money.
2) Worked six hours to make up for the overtime I missed out on last week.
3) Went to the gym to make up for missing my workout last night. But unlike yesterday, I remembered my socks this time.
4) Washed dishes and did laundry in an attempt to keep the house in order while Dan is out of town. (I miss you, babe!)
5) Sat down to write a webpage update and watch "While You Were Sleeping." I love weekends!

From the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge

I know I said I was finished uploading our honeymoon photos, but there's one I missed the first time around. The first day we got to Sydney, Dan and I climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge and it was an amazing experience. We weren't allowed to bring our own cameras (or anything else) with us on the climb so this picture was taken by our guide at the top of the bridge. I had to scan it so that's why it's not the best quality. But you can still see the Opera House in the background. Very cool.

It took me more than a week, but I finally finished uploading Our Honeymoon Photos! There are 482 in all. Sometime in the near future I would like to create a webpage specifically for our honeymoon (similar to our wedding page) where we can share both pictures and stories from the two-week trip. We had a great time and I don't want to forget any part of it. My immediate plan is to finish uploading the wedding and honeymoon videos we took with our digital camera. There are a few on You Tube already, but I have several more to add. But right now it's time for bed.

When Dan asks for seconds at dinner I know I've made something good. Tonight's winners were Zucchini Oven Chips (like the fried variety from Carl's Jr, but much healthier, and tastier too) and Fresh Plum Crumb Dessert (a sort of plum cobbler that turned out great). I love cooking when I get good results!

Good news! Upon further investigation it seems that I uploaded the honeymoon photos in the correct order after all. So now I can continue adding pictures to the honeymoon set without rearranging anything. But right now I'm tired and I want to go to bed. And that's exactly what I'm going to do...as soon as I put a load of jeans in the dryer. I'm planning to go to work tomorrow for a little while so I need to get some sleep. I have several things to do before Dan gets home tomorrow night. I can't wait to see him!

Due to work, home, and Arthur Murray obligations, I'm doing a terrible keeping my webpage updated! I did upload a few more honeymoon photos last night, but then I discovered a whole bunch of pictures from Wellington that I missed. Because the clocks on our two cameras aren't synchronized, uploading the photos in the order they were taken is proving to be difficult. I'll try to get caught up on that tonight, but I won't get home until around 10:30 PM because I have a dance lesson at 9:15 PM. Sigh. Currently I'm at work, feeling sleepy from the Mexican food I had for lunch, and counting the minutes until quitin' time. I'm also extremely sore from aerobics yesterday because we had a sub instructor and she more weight training than I'm used to. I'm planning to go to the gym after work today to see if I can appease my muscles. Dan's been out of town all week and I miss him. Our house is quiet and empty without him. Luckily he's coming back tomorrow! See you soon babe!
