Today I put in a full day at work (after taking two days of sick leave) and then came home and made a delicious dinner for Dan and me (baked ziti is extremely simple, but also very tasty). That's pretty good considering that yesterday afternoon was the first time I got out of bed willingly in more than a week. I won't be going back to the gym this week, but at least a day at work didn't completely exhaust me (like the last time I had the flu). I had three hours of meetings this morning and then I sorted through all of the email that piled up in my inbox while I was gone. After that I moved on to planning my group's annual holiday luncheon. Not sure where or when it's going to be yet, but I got the ball rolling. And I guess I did some real work at some point too. It's been a productive day!

I have a two-inch greenish yellow bruise on my wrist from the IV last Thursday. My skin reacts badly to needles. Being sick sucks (but I think I'm finally getting better).

I'm finally watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I TiVoed it in case we didn't get to see the parade for some reason while we were in Texas, and it's a good thing I did. I made my second trip to the urgent care center last Thursday morning and the IV kept me from watching the parade live. Next up on TiVo as I catch up on my television - Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving.

Dan and I got home from Texas on Saturday night, but I still haven't recovered from my mysterious illness. I stayed home from work today to make another trip to an urgent care center, and I got some antibiotics this time to see if that might help. The doctor told me to keep to a liquid diet for at least one more day. I've lost 8 pounds in the past week because I haven't been able to keep anything down. Watching everyone eat Thanksgiving dinner on Friday was torture. I tried to eat a roll, but that didn't work too well and I spent the rest of the afternoon in bed. Yuck. So for now I'll grab another Gatorade from the fridge and finish watching the parade. Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving!

Happy Turkey Day! Dan's family is having Thanksgiving dinner one day late to accommodate everyone's travel plans, so I'm sitting at the kitchen table while the food is being prepared all around me. I had the unfortunate luck of getting the stomach flu on Monday night just before we left for Texas so I can't eat anything. I've been to the local urgent care center twice since we arrived - once for some oral medication and the second time for an IV when I couldn't keep the pills down. I feel much better now and I've been able to drink some Gatorade, but I'm not going to risk another trip to the hospital by eating turkey. No matter how good it looks! My goal is to keep down one roll at dinner tonight and that will be an accomplishment. Maybe I can go back to eating solids next week. This is certainly not the most pleasant weight loss plan!

It's been a busy weekend and I can't believe it's already almost over. I spent yesterday making two loaves of pumpkin bread and two loaves of apple cranberry bread in preparation for Thanksgiving. On Tuesday Dan and I are going to Texas to visit his mom and family and I'll pack one loaf of each kind of bread to take with us. I'm sending as much as I can of the other two loaves to my family in Tampa. I intended to make some cookies as well, but I didn't have any extra time because this weekend I had to go to work today. Not only did I finish the document that I have to release before the Thanksgving holiday, but I also made up some of the hours I'm going to miss while we're gone. Then when I got home Dan had made a delicious dinner for the two of us. My husband is so wonderful! So it's been a good couple of days. My last goal for the weekend is to get a couple of loads of laundry washed before I go to bed. Let's get started!

I wasn't feeling well today so I left work early and came home to rest. But since it gets dark early these days I took advantage of the remaining daylight and cleaned up the Halloween decorations from our front yard. That was long overdue! Then I took a much-needed three-hour nap. I felt so much better when I woke up that I made dinner for tomorrow night in preparation for Dan's homecoming. He's been gone for almost two weeks so I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen when he's here. Plus, I made a pumpkin cheesecake for dessert! I'm really looking trying it, but it needs to chill overnight. It's a good thing too or it might not last until tomorrow!

GATORS WIN! Plus, they won by 20 points! And Tebow is back! Life is good!

After the Gators scored two touchdowns (minus one extra point) in the first four minutes, I decided to wash dishes for the rest of the first quarter. I was still watching the game from the kitchen, but I had to keep myself busy doing something else to keep my anxiety at bay. The good news is that the Gators are winning at the half. The bad news is that the Gamecocks haven't made it easy for them. It's been an exciting game so far so I'll have to find another task to occupy myself during the second half!

It's a perfect fall day for sweatshirt wearing and football watching! The only flaw is that the Gator games are so nerve wracking. The South Carolina game is just starting and I'll be biting my nails because it's a pretty even matchup. Both teams are hungry for a win (Spurrier especially). And with Ohio State losing today the BCS poll positions are up for grabs again. Not that the three-loss Gators have much of a chance, but a win today can only help!

Back by popular demand (my husband's at least) - it's Laurensweb.net!

I finished my week of working the night shift at 8 AM yesterday morning. When I got home I slept about six hours, woke up to eat a bagel and watch TV for a little while, and then fell asleep again at 9 PM. This means that I woke up pretty early this morning, at least for a Saturday. It's a good thing too because the neighborhood construction began promptly at 8 AM. I spent the whole week cursing the construction because due to my work schedule I had to sleep during the day. It's not that easy when there's nonstop hammering from two nearby lots. My goal for the weekend is to recover from the 12+ hour night shifts and almost sleepless days. Plus, I need to get the house in order for when Dan gets back from Denver on Tuesday. Hooray!

This may go against my usual sports sensibilities, but right now I have to say...GO 'NOLES!

P.S. I just saw the trailer for "The Golden Compass" and I can't even tell you much much I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Florida State is leading Boston College in the 4th quarter and I can't watch the game on ABC because I'm on the West Coast? How frustrating! That would be an amazing upset. At least the Gators won today, but since it was their homecoming game against Vanderbilt that's how it should be.

I passed a De Lorean on my way to work this morning. I did a double take to make sure that's what it really was because I didn't expect to see one driving down the 405 freeway just like any other car. But when I saw the DMC on the front I knew it really was a De Lorean. Cool.
