It may be bad luck, but Dan and I didn't eat any of our original wedding cake on our anniversary. Dan may have had a taste of the frosting, but the cake itself was frozen solid. I need to remember to leave it out to defrost one morning before I leave for work. Maybe then it will be semi-edible at the end of the day. The cake I made in an attempt to recreate our wedding cake turned out pretty well, though. The extra butter didn't ruin it, but the cake was heavy and kind of dry. Next year I'll make a few tweaks and see how I can improve it. Even though it wasn't perfect, it was nice to have cake to eat on our first anniversary. And there's still plenty of leftovers in the fridge for this week!

It's been a bad week for fitness. I went to my usual Monday and Tuesday aerobics classes which was good, but I missed my workouts on Wednesday (I was tired and I had to meet Dan at Medieval Times) and Thursday (I didn't get out of work until 6 PM). Two very bad choices on my part. I had my gym bag all packed and sitting in the back of my car both of those days, so it was all ready to go when I planned to hit the gym this afternoon. I was feeling good when I got to the fitness center, but as I was pulling my clothes out of the bag I discovered that there were no socks in there. So I had been lamenting on how I regretted not going to the gym Wednesday and Thursday when I couldn't have worked out even if I had! I was toting my gym bag around for three days with no socks! Really stupid. So the first thing I'll do when I get home tonight is put a pair of socks and my iPod (which I forgot too) in my gym bag for tomorrow. After the laziness that was this week, weekend workouts are mandatory.

One year ago today Dan and I were married. It was by far the happiest day of my life. The culmination of six years together led us to the altar to become man and wife. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful husband or a better partner in life. I knew Dan was the one for me the first time we met and every day I reminds me why. I love you, Dan, and I am so proud to be your wife.

Since the idea of eating our frozen wedding cake on our anniversary tomorrow wasn't a pleasant one, I wanted to make a similar cake for Dan and me to enjoy instead. After an extensive search for cranberry orange pecan cake, I found a similar recipe (just had to add dried cranberries). Unfortunately, when I made the cake tonight, I misread the recipe and put in twice as much butter as it called for (1 1/2 sticks does NOT equal 1 1/2 cups, dummy). The cakes looked all right coming out of the oven so I still have hope that the finished product will taste all right. It can't be worse than the frozen-for-a-year brick we have waiting in the wings! And with the orange cream cheese frosting from this recipe, my version of our wedding cake might actually be pretty good. Right now our anniversay is less than one hour away. Happy (early) anniversary Dan!

Time for more New Zealand All Black's rugby! I messed up recording last week's match so let's hope the All Blacks can beat England again so that we can witness it firsthand!

Awhile back I was so desperate to watch the season 2 episodes of Heroes that I missed last year that I tried to install Service Pack 2 from the Microsoft website so that I could buy the episodes from Amazon. However, that caused my computer to crash and I had to use the Windows reinstallation disk to repair the version I started out with. Eventually I got hold of a Service Pack 2 disk and successfully installed it on my bordering on ancient laptop. The next step was to buy an episode of Heroes and see if I could watch it. It worked! I was very excited about that. Then I discovered that sometime since I last checked, NBC put all of the season 2 episodes online. Stupid Microsoft. Stupid NBC. Stupid me. At least I'm only a few dollars poorer and I gained the knowledge of exactly how delicate my five year-old laptop is.

NBA Championship Game 6: Lakers 92, Celtics 131

I listened to the beginning of the basketball game on the radio as I was driving home from the gym, Dan and I watched a most of the game on TV before me left the house, and we listened to the end of the game on the radio as we drove to Arthur Murray. It was a really disappointing game for Lakers' fans no matter how you experienced it. It wasn't an unexpected loss (after the Lakers lost at home last Thursday we knew all was lost), but it was a pathetic one and it's never fun when your hometown team has that kind of showing. At least there's always next year!

NBA Championship Game 5: Lakers 103, Celtics 98

We spent the weekend in San Francisco with my parents and brother, but Dan and I got home for the last seconds of game 5. Thanks goodness the Lakers won.

The first New Zealand All Blacks rugby game of the season is about to start! And it's pouring in Wellington where the match is taking place. Sounds like every day of our honeymoon!

NBA Championship Game 1: Lakers 88, Celtics 98
I was so tired yesterday afternoon that I skipped aerobics and went straight home after work. And when I got there I slept through the entire basketball game. Oh well. The Lakers lost anyway. Game 2 is on Sunday evening so I'll do my best to be awake for that one.

I usually get home at 6:30 PM on the days I go to aerobics. Tomorrow is one of those days. Of course that means that the first Lakers vs. Celtics NBA championship game starts at 5:30 PM tomorrow night. Crap. At least I'll be able to watch the last three quarters when I get home. Go Lakers!

I know I made a great dinner last night because Dan ate some of the leftovers for breakfast/lunch this morning. I love making my favorite lasagna recipe when I get the chance. Plus, the banana bread I made for dessert yesterday made a great breakfast for me. It would have been prefect, but there wasn't any milk left to go with it. Dan and I are going to dinner at Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas tonight. What a great way to end the weekend.
