A few minutes ago a really loud noise scared me as I was decorating the Christmas tree. It turned out to be a sonic boom from Space Shuttle Endeavor landing at Edwards Air Force Base. At least it landed safely!

Thanksgiving cherry dessert, take 2. I made this cobbler with the frozen cherries that didn't make it into the cherry-cranberry pie. Dan actually liked this better! Success!

I hate working on a Saturday! Especially when I have to get updates on the Gator football game online. It's nerve wracking!

Dan requested a cherry pie for Thanksgiving so today, after we drove home from our Disneyland trip, I took on the challenge even though I've never made one before. The only kind of pie I've ever made is pecan, which is hard to screw up. So I did some research online, found several cherry pie recipes that sounded good, and chose one that had fresh cranberries in the filling to make the pie suitably Thanksgiving-y. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any of the refrigerated pie crusts that I'm familiar with so I picked up a couple of frozen ones at the grocery store today. They weren't easy to work with. I had to have Dan re-roll one of them using a glass as a rolling pin when it ripped into several pieces after thawing. After the assembly difficuties were resolved, I popped the finished pie into the oven for 45 minues, as directed by the recipe. But when I checked it at the 40-minute mark the top crust had ripped open and the filling was starting to pour out. The good thing is I had the foresight to put the pie on a baking sheet or else the oven would be a mess. While the finished pie tasted pretty good, the presentation really needs some work and it fell apart when I tried to serve it. Oh well. I'll do better next time!

I haven't been doing a very good job of keeping this page updated in the past few weeks. I went to DC on another business trip from the 16th to the 19th and I didn't have my laptop with me that time so posting time was nonexistent. Not that there was much to report because of the short duration, but it was COLD there! I took my warm peacoat with me to DC, but I neglected to bring gloves as well. This made driving in the morning a bit unpleasant. Apparently it snowed one day around lunchtime, but I was too busy to leave the building to check it out for myself. I flew back to LA on Wednesday night and took Thursday off from work to do some Christmas shopping. It was great to be at the malls without the usual holiday crowd. Between actual store shopping and online shopping I've made a pretty good dent in the list of presents I need to buy. Dan and I are going to Disneyland on Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving and we'll be having dinner at the Napa Rose which is one of my favorite restaurants. I'm so looking forward to the holiday break. I'm flying back to DC on December 3rd and I'll be there until the 9th. Just another business trip. Dan will also be in DC around the same time for a different work-related matter. Maybe we'll even be able to see each other! Crazy days!

How did Florida stay in the same spot in the BCS rankings after Texas Tech lost yesterday? How did Oklahoma end up ahead of the Gators? This is madness!

"After a sloppy home lapse against Ole Miss, the Gators have played possessed football. They have bounced off the canvas. Thanks to a couple of surprises in the Big 12 and the loss by Penn State, the Gators are on track once again."

I am so proud of this country. We took a huge step forward today and I am glad to have been a part of electing Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. I know not every day will be as hopeful as today, but I think we're off to a good start. I am so proud to be an American right now.

Yes, I voted today. At 6:45 AM I was standing in a line outside my polling place hoping it wasn't going to start raining again before I got inside. It didn't. After explaining to three volunteers that I'm still registered under my maiden name (despite my best efforts to re-register using my married name), I cast my ballot with a few ink spots on a scantron. And now I'm going to do my best to stay away from the election television coverage until the polls close in California (8 PM PST). That's not gonna be easy!
