Sunday, March 18 Sunday, March 25

What a difference a week makes. It was about 30 degrees in Big Bear on March 18th when Dan and I were snowboarding at Snow Summit. Then it was about 80 degrees when we were at the Cubs spring training game in Phoenix on March 25th. One weekend I was buying a fleece neck wrap to keep my face from freezing and the next weekend I was buying a bucket hat to protect myself from the sun. Crazy. By the way, the rest of the pictures from last weekend have been uploaded and are available in the "Phoenix 2006" section of my photo album.

Thanks to Dave Berman, Dan and I have become addicted to "Lost." Dan received the season one DVD set from Dave for his birthday and we've already watched all of those episodes. Then Dave burned the first fifteen season two episodes onto DVDs and sent them to Dan this week. Very cool. This evening Dan and I had a fabulous homemade meal and watched four of the season two episodes. I'm even taking my laptop with us to Arizona this weekend so we can watch some more. We'll be caught up to the current season soon and I taped this Wednesday's episode so that we can watch it when we are. Like I said, we're hooked.

Picture of Snow Summit Resort this morning

It was snowing in Big Bear when Dan and I were there this weekend. The place looked like a winter wonderland with a lot of fresh snow. It was quite a change from the other two times we’ve been there this winter. We hadn’t driven far up the mountain before we had to put chains on my car tires. The cold weather made for great conditions at Snow Summit, though. The snow was powdery and soft and that made snowboarding a lot easier. Snowboarding has never been easy for me, but I really started to enjoy it this weekend. I remembered what I learned from the instructor in January and I actually made some progress from there. That doesn’t mean I didn’t fall and get frustrated a few times, but it was a good weekend. Dan and I had a lot of fun and I’m glad we went. This weekend we’re driving to Mesa, AZ to see two Cubs spring training games. That means I have to unpack the long underwear and fleece that’s in my duffel bag from Big Bear and pack shorts and sunscreen instead. Dan and I are such an exciting couple!

I've never been the Martha Stewart type, but lately I've been reading her magazine for recipes and home decorating ideas. Things like this make me want to make my own wedding invitations. Very cool.

While at Snow Summit today I managed to fall and smack myself in the face with my snowboard. And this was while I was just walking, not actually snowboarding. Stupid icy walkway. I now have two cuts across the bridge of my nose as an outward sign of my clumsiness. More details on the snowboarding trip tomorrow.

I always thought I'd wear a flower in my hair when I got married. Then I saw hair jewelry like this. So gorgeous! I still might have a lilly or an orchid in my hair, but it's always nice to have choices. Especially when it comes to jewelry.

Work is so stressful right now. As of today I have three jobs. Before Christmas I accepted a position to take over for someone who was planning to leave the program in a few months. Today was her last day and now I’m completely on my own. And given the rest of my work situation I haven’t had a lot of time to get up to speed. It’s more than a little scary. Plus, I’m working like crazy to finish up my first job, but progress has been slow. The other people in my group are just as overworked as I am so there’s no one for me to hand over my two documents to. My name will be attached to them and I’ll be responsible for updating them as long as I’m on the program. To add more fuel to the fire, I was assigned my third job today. Once again I’ll be taking over for someone who’s not around anymore. He left in September, but no one thought to fill his position at the time. It’s been six months and his primary document hasn’t been touched since then. Over the past year I’ve become the “resident expert” in his area (meaning that I’m the only person still around who understands it) so I’m the best choice to pick up where he left off. It makes perfect sense, but there aren’t enough hours in the day for three jobs. Sometimes I think my job description should be “solving other people’s problems.”

As I was leaving Walmart tonight it started to hail. HAIL! The pieces were smaller than a pea, but it was definitely hail. I could tell by the way it bounced off my windshield and the sound it made hitting my car. For a city that calls a little rain "extreme" weather, I know the hail will be on the news.

P.S. As a contast to what I posted last night, my current favorite wedding shoes are these (less expensive) and these (more expensive).

After attempting to wear five different kinds of contact lenses I decided to fill my six-month supply with Acuvue Oasys - the first pair I tried. They are just the most comfortable lenses around. And after wearing some less than comfortable contacts I know how important that is. It's so wonderful to be able to see without glasses (and not want to scratch my eyes out)!

Yes, I'm still alive. It's been awhile since my last post, but I was sick with the flu about half the time so there wasn't much to tell from that week. And after I got over the worst of it all I wanted to do was sleep, so there's another uninteresting week. Dan and I watched the Oscars on Sunday night even though we hadn't seen any of the movies nominated for Best Picture. It was still nice spending time with my fiance, lounging around on the couch, and eating pizza. Speaking of Dan, the rest of the pictures he took at our house last weekend are in the "New House" section of my photo album. I forgot to mention that when I posted the two pictures last week. Hopefully we'll have some more photos of the house soon. And hopefully we'll be moving in sometime in April!
