Watching the Olympics tonight reminds me how frustrating my workouts have been this week. On Tuesday I could barely make it through my step aerobics class because I'm still out of shape after my two-week break from the gym in July. Plus, I hate my new running shoes. This year's version of the women's Nike Pegasus just doesn't working for me. I loved my old pair of the 2007's, but 2008's are awful. I feel like I spend as much time adjusting my shoes as I do actually working out. On Wednesday I didn't make it to kickboxing because one of my coworkers stopped by my cubicle when I was about to leave and didn't stop talking for thirty minutes. I was so annoyed. I tried to walk away from the conversation, but he just kept following me. Granted he's from out of town so I don't see him very often, but I wasn't too happy about missing my workout to talk to him. And then today I think I left my brain in the locker room when I went to aerobics. We've been doing the same routine since the first week of January, but I just couldn't seem to get it right today. Usually I leave the gym feeling better than when I walked in, but that hasn't been the case recently. No matter how frustrated I get, I need to remember to take advantage of my workouts this week, because next week I'll be at the mercy of the Embassy Suites fitness center. At least it's something!

This is the best time of year for plums. I'm so making a plum cobbler this week. Since I'm going to DC on a business trip on Sunday I won't be able to enjoy it very long, but at least Dan will have something to eat while I'm gone!

I love being able to watch the Olympics when I get home at night (thanks to my DVR). That's the upside. The downside is that I stay up way too late and then fall asleep on the couch watching gymnastics!

I'm currently getting ready for the cocktail party Dan and I are hosting at our house tonight. I only have a few minutes while there are two batches of brownies in the oven at different levels of doneness. I still have to make mini cheesecakes, meatballs, and bruschetta before I'll feel at all prepared for the guests to arrive. I really need to take a shower too!

"I have been told there is much to see upon a walk, but all I've detected so far is a general tendency to green above and brown below."

Becoming Jane is an achingly beautiful movie. It's both joyously happy and heartbreakingly sad at the same time. I saw the movie in the theater, but I enjoyed it even more during the second viewing in the comfort of my own home. I got the DVD from the library yesterday, and I watched it as soon as I got home tonight. I love getting movies from the library. Maybe now my earlier post makes more sense? I don't even want to think about losing my OC county library privileges!

I dread the day when the barcode on my Orange County Public Library card is too worn off to scan. Then they'll find out that I don't live in Orange County anymore! And they'll take my library card away! Noooo!
